BlueScope doesn't publish a single lifespan, because it depends on where the roof is. Its warranties vary with the product, how it is used and the site's distance from the coast, and eligibility criteria apply. The biggest factors you control are the right steel for your distance from the surf, compatible fixings, and hosing down areas that rain doesn't wash.

There are three main families. Corrugated is the classic ripple and suits most pitched homes. Trapezoidal rib profiles have taller, squarer ribs and can run at lower pitches. Concealed-fix profiles clip onto brackets with no screws through the top of the sheet and suit low-pitch and skillion roofs. The right choice depends on your pitch, the look you want and the exposure.

The usual complaints are rain noise, condensation and corrosion near the coast, and each has a fix. An insulation blanket under the sheets dulls rain and reduces condensation. Steel rated for your distance from breaking surf, with compatible fixings, deals with corrosion. Many metal roof problems come from the wrong product for the site or poor flashing work rather than the steel itself.

Yes, with the right steel. BlueScope recommends standard Colorbond steel for roofs more than 200 metres from breaking surf and Colorbond Ultra steel between 100 and 200 metres, measured from the high-water mark. Closer than that, it recommends stainless steel roofing and site-specific advice. Fixings and flashings need to be compatible with the sheet and the exposure too.

Yes. We install the full Colorbond range, and gutters and flashings can be matched to the roof. Lighter colours reflect more of the sun, and some estates and strata schemes have colour rules, so check yours before you decide. Screens and printed charts are only a guide, so look at a physical sample in daylight before you choose.

It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, how much of the old roof and battens have to come off, access for scaffold and the weather. A simple new-build roof is quicker than a steep re-roof with hips and valleys. We talk through the likely timing when we quote, and we keep you posted if rain moves the dates.
